Why You Should Book Yourself On Facebook

In the social networking space, Mark Zuckerberg’s creation – Facebook, clearly stands out, with current active membership levels touching the 350 million mark. Even if it does not seem clearly obvious or relevant to you, it would definitely do you – as a small business owner, a great deal of good, having a presence of your own, on Facebook.

Many small business owners end up spending significant amount of money, using traditional means of promoting themselves, while completely overlooking newer promotion avenues – which actually do not cost a dime!

Facebook is definitely one such avenue. Its humungous reach and immense popularity lend it that much more credibility as a platform for promoting your own business on it.

Now, the obvious question would be that how would you do it? After all, Facebook is essentially a social networking site where people gather to have a good time, for recreational and leisure purposes, and not to consider purchasing the goods or services that you have on offer. But what if you actually did not proffer your goods or services on the site at all? Wondering, so what’s the point?? Well, read on…

Among its numerous fascinating and enthralling features, Facebook has an option of creating groups as well as pages; these could be for a business, for a line of thought, for a particular ideology – in fact for just about anything!

Therefore, let us assume that you are in the business of making delicious, homemade cookies. So, how about starting a page or a group on Facebook, which goes by something as generic as “I have a sweet tooth” or “I love cookies”. Search for people on Facebook who are geographically located in and around your business and have them subscribe to the page you have created, or join the group that you have created.

Within no time, you will probably be floored by the fantastic response that you are very likely to get. With a community formed, people will start voicing their preference for cookies as well as the particular kind of cookies that they like. With such a platform created, it offers you an excellent means – a perfect platform, for you to soft sell your product offerings, without making it apparent to people that you are trying to push your sales, or advertising your business directly.

Another excellent means of promoting your business via Facebook, is to get people to become your “fans”. This way they are kept up-to-date on all that is happening at your end, not only by you directly, but by the community itself, through information shared with one another, within the community.

Facebook applications and games are also an immensely useful means of promoting your business. Again taking the aforementioned example of the cookie business, you could consider looking at users of applications such as Zynga’s Café World, a game where people cook up a wide array of lip smacking exotic dishes, while accumulating ‘Café Points’ and competing with one another. As of December 15, 2009 the application had 32,216,884 active monthly users and 3,935,672 fans. These are all people quite likely to be as passionate about food as you are. Once you have your own Facebook page/group, you could definitely consider getting at least some of these millions of active users and fans of the aforementioned application, to join your own page/group. Over time, the community itself will work towards promoting your business as well as giving you vital feedback in terms of their likes and dislikes for your cookies.

Summing up, in case you have not done so already, consider having your own Facebook presence, today!
