Speaking Testimonial

“I just want to thank you for the seminar you gave at the Colonial Hotel in Gardner, MA. I learned so much! There are a couple of things that really stuck in my mind about what you said. One thing is that our body is our feedback system. I agree with that so much. When I am feeling stressed and overwhelmed, the first thing that happens to me is my stomach hurts! I use to accept this and for the past couple of months I have learned to be able to calm myself down and look at things differently so that the stress literally can go away just by the way I am thinking. Just like what you said.  When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change. I believe that that is so true. The second thing that sticks in my mind is gratitude. I feel that so many people take things for granted, and I’ll admit that there are things that I take for granted too. I am going to try from this day forward to be more grateful AND express it. Because I feel that it is also important. There are a lot of things that you said that reminded me of Ester Hicks, which is why I asked you at the end of the seminar if you listened to her. I have been listening to her for a couple of months now, and I have been able to hear (more like feel!) my stress triggers. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to you and talking with you after the seminar, and I wanted to express that to you. I feel like we had a real connection, thank you”. - Kelly Stanley, Success Coach

Unwrapping Your Life Purpose

image_john2One of things that I do as a life purpose coach is to help you to connect to your unique gifts in the service of others.. This is a short article that I came accross today that I think will help get you started in discovering your life’s purpose, if that’s something that you want to learn more about. As always, I am here for you if you decide that “life purpose” is something that you want to explore more deeply. I hope you find this article helpful

Don’t be afraid to unwrap your gift…   by Randy Pipes on October 17, 2009

“You’ve probably heard the term “the gift of life” at one time or another. Usually it’s used in the context of how precious our allotment of time on earth can be. And certainly this is true.

Today, however I’d like you to see things from a slightly different perspective. The combined expression of who you are…your passions, personality, skill, talent, experience, etc. is a gift that was meant to be presented to your world. You are the gift.

It essence, that’s what purpose it…the contribution of your life in a way that expresses God’s goodness to others.

But I say this at the risk of knowing that some people might misinterpret what I’m saying. I’m not trying to lay a guilt trip on you for not doing more with your life. In fact, I know that some of you have given to the point of exhaustion.

The point is not to expend more of yourself, but to focus on the  expenditure of the right gift. The more you learn to focus your life energies toward the right contributions, the more powerful the influence of your life will become.

Let me explain what I mean…

It would be nice if we all had crystal clarity in terms of who we are. My experience however is that most people define themselves in terms of their perceived value to others. This creates pressure to perform according the expectations that are placed upon us.

So we run harder and faster and spread ourselves in all kinds of directions. We can give ourselves in so many ways, to the point of wearing ourselves out.

Ironically, these vicious cycles of performance often prevent us from understanding our true value to God. When we strive for the affection and approval of others, we miss the the extraordinary greatness of who we already are. It’s like adding more and more to ourselves in order to look better when God simply says, “Let me remove the wrapping paper so the world can see the value of who you already are!”

God will never love you any more or any less than He does at this very moment. He want’s to share His love to the world through the true expression of who He made you to be.

So rather than striving to have more, be more, do more…why don’t you take a risk…

Let God remove the wrapping paper. Don’t give yourself to please people. Believe in the value of who you already are. Serve from this position.

You are one of a kind and amazing. Stop wrestling to be more of who you are not. Focus on the extraordinary value of who you are. The world is waiting and the more you present them with the real you, the more powerful your influence will be! Blessings…R.P.P.”

The Peaceful Warrior

35853_logo

When someone hurts us deeply,

we may find it difficult or impossible

to forgive them.

Our hearts may be filled with anger or sorrow.

If we allow this anger to fester within us,

it can spread like a cancer.

Letting go of anger or sorrow in our hearts

will recapture energy that was previously wasted.

This recaptured life energy can be redirected

with passionate focus on activities

that will nurture the divinity within us.

As we water this seed of divinity,

we will be developing our minds, bodies, and spirits.

Pause for a moment, acknowledge the anger or

hurt feelings,

and recite the word “Agape” several times to yourself.

The word agape means unconditional love.

Become a “Peaceful Warrior” in all of your encounters!

And take control of your life with a new pro-active focus.

Expand your circle of influence and concern

by focusing on the thing you can control

and change in your life —

YOU!

It Just Doesn’t Feel Comfortable

This is a post that I want to share with you from my friend Kevin Levine. There are some valuable lessons that we can all learn from his story, especially doing what’s uncomfortable…

Chameleon firefighterI once heard it said that self improvement is just another word for changing oneself. And doing that isn’t comfortable and takes courage. There are lots of things that aren’t comfortable to do, like doing what’s right. I found myself in that kind of situation this week. It’s easy to just take the least path of resistance and that is what I had been doing. However, one thing I have found even if I don’t do it right off the bat like I should, is I always feel better after I do the right thing no matter how long it takes or how difficult it is to take action in that direction.

You’re probably wondering what it is that happened this week to inspire me to write about the topic of self improvement. Well, I’ll tell you and then I’ll give you a bonus example to help bring everything home for you. I have been working for a manager that has been showing his lack of people skills to most everyone in the department. However, he has shown an extreme lack of leadership and professionalism directed to me over and beyond anyone else in the department. For about 2 and ½ years I’ve been utilizing my self improvement skills to counter his brash of insults, disrespect, condescending behavior and inequity decision making towards me. Also, during this time I tried to work with him and help him to grow by providing him feedback and opportunity to open the paths of communication and cooperative interfacing. None of that worked and so this week I attempted to put a stop to it and sent him a message that this kind of behavior is not only unacceptable, but will not be tolerated any longer. I notified his manager who was completely unaware of the things he had been doing. Keep in mind if you are in a similar situation that this action may not be the right one for you, but it was for me.

Now the point is I could have kept on “taking it” or I could have “ran for the hills” and left the company. Perhaps I could have done any number of things in an attempt to resolve the issue. This one individual was acting in this way and all other employees exhibit a very professional behavior. So for me, I believed leaving the company isn’t worthwhile over one person even if the person is my boss. I’m sure most people have been placed into situations where they have to work with difficult people and that my situation isn’t unique. So, I’m sure you can relate and I feel really good about getting this issue on the road to resolution. Not only will I be helping myself, but I’ll be helping others that work with him as well, now and in the future. I’m sure he will learn from this experience as he is new to management.

Here’s the bonus example. I was with an organization that some changes were made that went against my morals, like being truthful and open with others who had a vested interest, seeking to understand and work through differences, searching for solutions that are in everyone’s best interest and so on. Because the behavior of this organization went against my core values, I could no longer be affiliated with it and I left and found another place that I believe is in harmony with my core values. It wasn’t easy, took courage, and it didn’t feel comfortable to do, but it was the right thing to do. My suggestion to you is to do what feels right and not what is always the easiest thing to do.

Thanks very much everyone and have a great week,

Kevin Levine

Taking Time for Reflection

image_john2In our busy lives, we often forge to take time for reflection. Our days are filled with activities centered around work, family, finances, relationships, and so on. Demands for our time are placed on us by everyone so it’s easy to understand why wemay sometimes neglect our own need for reflection. Why is reflection important? Reflection is valuable because it gives us an opportunity to look at our life with fresh new insightso that we can find ways to improve what we now doing. There are always areas of our life that can use some improvement. As you know, when we look at situations and opportunities with hindsight, our vision becomes 20/20. Practicing mental dress rehearsals is an effective method for achieving successful results. This can be done during times of reflection. Taking thirty to sixty minutes a day for reflection is good preventative maintenance for our mind, body, and spirit so that we can recharge our batteries. Are you taking time for reflection? Give it a try and watch what happens. The results will speak for themselves!

The Art Of Effectve Communication

image_john2Communication experts estimate that a small percentage of our communication is represented by the words that are said. They say that ten percent of communication is by the words we say, thirty percent is represented by our sounds or inflection in our voice, and the remaining sixty percent is through body language. With these facts in mind, it’s understandable why most people have a difficult time communicating effectively. If you want to improve your communication skills measurably, then learn everything you can about empathic listening, because it is the gateway to truly effective communication. Empathic listening involves listening with the intent to understand. It involves looking at the world through another person’s eyes or frame of reference. You are listening with your ears, eyes, and heart. When a person speaks to you, you are listening for feeling, meaning, and behavior which involves left and right brain activity. When you do this, you sense, you intuit, and you feel. Take the time to examine your own listening skills to see if they could use some improvement. I’m willing to bet that we could all improve our relationships, both personally and professionally, with some empathic listening as we learn the art of effective communication.

Inner Beauty

image_john2

In today’s world of fashion

and sculpted bodies,

we sometimes loose sight

of the real beauty in each person.

Every person possesses an inner beauty

if we take the time to look for it.

Beyond the physical limitation and distortion

lies a creature of beauty.

As the saying goes,

“Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.”

No truer words were ever spoken.

With an increased emphasis

placed on external beauty,

it’s easy to understand why

we sometimes loose sight

of the real beauty

lying inside each one of us.

Outer beauty is only temporary as we age.

Inner beauty is something

that will last for a lifetime.

And it’s permanent, once we find it.

Take the time to find it in each person,

and it will open your eyes

to all the beauty that is around you.
